The world’s most magical city is a tangle of quiet streets, each instincts guide through the calli and the campi, over the city’s bridges and into its breathtaking churches. And seeing the view of the lagoon at with a story and a treasure to be discovered. The best means of transportation is your feet, so wear comfortable shoes and let your sunset is an unforgettable experience. Summer is a great time to visit, but it does get hot, but to take a break from the heat and refresh yourself, there’s always the Lido beach, one of the most beautiful stretches of sand in Italy.
A TRIP ON THE LAGOON
The Venetian Lagoon divides up into two parts, the Northern and Southern Lagoon. Both areas are dotted with islands, large and small. Many of these islands are now uninhabited and abandoned, but they still offer a strong sense of Venetian history. I sometimes have a chance to go and visit a friend who bought a house on one of these islands in the Northern Lagoon called Torcello.
A WALK AMIDST THE OMBRE AND CICHETI
It seems that the word "ombra" (shade) used to refer to a glass of wine comes from the fact that in the past, wine was served at benches set in the "ombra" or shade of the belfry tower. It was common to say, "Let's have a drink in the 'ombra' under the belfry tower." The phrase shortened and stuck with a glass of wine simply becoming an “ombra."
THE FLOATING FRUIT MARKET
Venice, like all cities, has undergone many changes over the years. Old customs and crafts have disappeared. They are remembered only in old photographs or the stories of old people. Anyone over fifty can remember something that no longer exists.
