Barcelona, April 14th, 2025 – Volotea, the airline connecting small and mid-sized European cities, has announced that Nathan Bailey has been appointed as its new Fleet Director. Nathan joined the company in early 2025 and brings extensive international experience to the role.
Nathan has over 15 years of experience in the aviation and aerospace industry, with a career spanning engineering, operations, and fleet strategy. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on aerospace composite materials and is also a licensed pilot with an EASA Private Pilot License.
Prior to joining Volotea, Nathan led several major fleet initiatives at Air New Zealand, including next-generation aircraft strategy development, manufacturer relations, and aircraft transactions. He played a key role in the airline’s recapitalization during COVID, supported a landmark widebody aircraft order, and oversaw the acquisition of its first electric demonstrator aircraft.
Stephen Rapp, Chief Financial Officer of Volotea, said: “Nathan brings deep technical expertise, a global outlook, and a strong strategic mindset to our team. His arrival comes at a critical time, as the aviation industry faces increasing challenges around aircraft availability and long-term fleet planning. Nathan’s leadership will be instrumental in helping us navigate these complexities while continuing to optimize our fleet for growth, efficiency, and operational resilience.”
Nathan Bailey, Fleet Director of Volotea, added: “What drew me to Volotea was its distinctive business model and operational footprint, which make this an exciting challenge from a fleet perspective. In the short to midterm, my focus will be on ensuring we continue to make sound, forward-looking fleet decisions that support performance, flexibility, and long-term alignment with the airline’s strategic direction.”
In 2025, Volotea plans to operate a network of over 420 routes with a fleet of 41 Airbus aircraft, offering 12.7 million seats across its 19 European bases in France, Italy, and Spain.
