The airline reached this symbolic milestone 12 years after its creation.

Lucie Charteau, from France, marketing manager in the wine and spirits sector and owner of an events agency, is Volotea's 55 millionth passenger.

The leader in domestic connectivity in France, Volotea plans to offer a historic service in the country by the end of the year.

Strasbourg, October 12th 2023 - Volotea, the airline serving Europe's regional capitals, proudly passes the 55-million-passenger mark. This significant milestone illustrates Volotea's success and commitment to strengthening regional connectivity in France and Europe 12 years after its creation. The winner was awarded a year's worth of travel with the airline, which she can enjoy with her family and friends. The award was presented on Thursday, September 28, at Strasbourg Airport.

“We are happy to announce that we have passed the 55 million passenger mark in our network, marking a crucial milestone in our expansion in France, our flagship market in Europe. Our strengthened presence plays a key role in the connectivity of Europe's regional capitals, notably Alsace, and we remain committed to facilitating access to travel for all by connecting small and mid-sized towns directly. Moreover, 90% of our customers recommend us because we are committed to offering the best possible travel experience," says Carlos Muñoz, Founder and CEO of Volotea.

" My experience with Volotea has been extremely positive. I've been lucky enough to travel several times with this airline, and each time, it has met my expectations. As far as this award is concerned, I'm very touched because traveling is one of my goals for 2024, and I really appreciate the destinations they offer. For this occasion, I also had the chance to travel in the cockpit during the flight to Strasbourg alongside the pilots. It was a unique moment I'll never forget," adds Lucie Charteau, 55 millionth passenger of Volotea.

Volotea was created to respond to a major European opportunity: connecting small and mid-sized cities. More than half of the routes it operates are still without competition. Within its network, the airline holds 1st or even 2nd place in terms of routes offered at most of its bases. More than 12 years after its creation, the company is accelerating its development and continuing to enrich its offer in France by boosting the connectivity of the territories where it has established a presence (Nantes, Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Toulouse, Marseille, Lyon, Lille, Lourdes-Tarbes).

France is Volotea's biggest market, accounting for almost 60% of its business.
On the strength of its excellent results, the airline plans a historic offer of almost 6.5 million seats by the end of the year. With 246 routes on offer, of which nearly half are exclusive, and 61 are domestic, Volotea is a true leader in terms of the number of routes in France.

These ambitions reflect Volotea's determination to play a significant economic and social role in France, creating over 740 direct jobs and almost 4,000 indirect jobs by 2023.

Volotea was founded in 2011 by Carlos Muñoz and Lázaro Ros, also previously founders of Vueling. It is one of the fastest-growing independent airlines in Europe in the last decade, increasing its fleet, routes served, and seats offered year-on-year. This year, the airline has celebrated a milestone of carrying 50 million passengers throughout its network.

Volotea reaches more than 100 airports and is currently based in 19 medium-sized European capitals: Asturias, Athens, Bilbao, Bordeaux, Cagliari, Florence (new in 2023), Hamburg, Lille, Lyon, Lourdes, Marseille, Nantes, Naples, Olbia, Palermo, Strasbourg, Toulouse, Venice, and Verona.

This year, Volotea will operate more than 400 routes (with over half exclusive), offer close to 12M seats (+41% versus 2019), and fly approximately 70,000 flights. The airline operates a fleet of 41 Airbus A319 and A320.

Volotea is dedicated to sustainable aviation and has committed to reducing 50% of its CO2 emissions per passenger and kilometer by 2030 (versus 2012). To date, Volotea has launched over 50 sustainability initiatives that have already driven a reduction in carbon footprint per passenger and kilometer by more than 45%. Since 2022, the company has been working on developing emission-free alternative technologies, operating Airbus' internal shuttle service with 34% of sustainable aviation fuel, and collaborating with manufacturers and the industry so that these fuels (now difficult to access) can be developed and become widespread as soon as possible

Volotea, with a workforce of 1,820 employees, actively boosts connectivity within the territories where it is based, while contributing to their economic development and enriching the cultural landscape through impactful sponsorship projects.

Volotea was recognized by Skytrax in its global passenger satisfaction survey as the “Best Low-Cost Airline in Europe” at the 2023 World Airline Awards, referred to by media around the world as “the Oscars of the aviation industry.” The airline adds this accolade to its growing list of achievements, which includes consecutive wins for "Leading European Low-Cost Airline" at the World Travel Awards in 2021 and 2022.
