September 30th, 2021. Volotea, the airline of European medium-sized cities, launches a new route that connects Fuerteventura with Asturias airport. This new connection, which will offer about 11,000 seats a year, will make Asturias the first national destination for Volotea from Fuerteventura. The flights will start operating next December and will have a weekly frequency.
With this new route, Volotea reaffirms its commitment to Asturias, from where it has operated more than 11,500 flights, carried more than 1,300,000 passengers, and created a hundred jobs in its nine years of operations at the Asturian airport.
The airline has 12 routes that connect Asturias with Alicante, Gran Canaria, Ibiza, Lanzarote, Malaga, Mallorca, Menorca, Murcia, Tenerife South, Seville, Valencia. And with Fuerteventura from December. With this new connection, Volotea confirms that Asturias airport is essential in its development plans in the short and medium term due its enormous growth possibilities.
So far, this year alone, Volotea has operated almost 1,200 flights, representing a capacity growth of 50% compared to the whole of 2020, and carried more than 175,000 passengers, 33% more than in the whole of last year.
“Our commitment to Asturias has been demonstrated throughout all these years of presence at its airport. With an initial offer of 21,700 seats in 2012, we have been increasing our capacity to reach the 285,000 seats that we will offer from December. From when we started operating our first flights up to today, we have been increasing our presence at this airport, convinced of its enormous potential. In this sense, this new route with Fuerteventura allows us to continue with our objective of improving the connectivity of Asturias”, said Gabriel Schmilovich, Volotea Chief Strategy Officer.
