What has yet to be said about Athens? This is the birthplace of civilization, the political, financial, and cultural centre of Greece. The city holds innumerable stories spread over its more than 3,000 years of history. It is even said that, without this city, Democracy would not exist. Its importance in history is simply magnificent. Even if the only thing you would visit would be the spectacular Acropolis, with legendary buildings like the Parthenon, it would still be worthwhile. But it is not only the city’s historic legacy that is a tourist attraction. In Athens, a simple stroll along its streets can be a great surprise. Besides the little “treasures” discovered in the city’s old neighbourhoods and their secret gardens, Athens on its own is a world map for the palate. Its gastronomy story is infinite, and visitors never fail to savour Mediterranean products such as the refreshing “tzatziki” and the succulent “moussaka”.
Embraced by the Parnitha and Pendelikon mountains, with beaches close-by and an energetic nightlife, this city is the perfect place for an unforgettable holiday.

Athens means an artistic and cultural journey across centuries, in the city streets and districts, as well as in its multiple museums. Whether you are a fan of museums or not, this one will dazzle you. Even from the outside of the National Archaeological Museum of Athens, you can sense the artistic grandness that is on display within. This is a real jewel and an architectural world reference. During the Second World War, it was buried for the sake of protection and the art works were spread out to avoid being plundered. Here you will find many prehistoric objects including Neolithic engraved vessels and enigmatic sculptures. Or see the famous Mask of Agamemnon with your own eyes. This place is a vast treasure that you might want to visit multiple times to understand Greek history better and deeper.
Eating good and inexpensive needs no effort in Athens. The delicious and healthy Greek gastronomy is renowned across the world. There are numerous take-away places in which you can taste the typical “souvlaki”. However, if you prefer a relaxed dinner combined with the best views in town, you should try restaurant Strofi. On a charming terrace facing the Acropolis, you will be serves local dishes prepared with care, as well as a great wine selection at decent prices. The Strofi terrace is a 100% romantic experience. Try one of their specialties, like the oven-baked eggplant, pork in oregano sauce, or the fried feta cheese. All of that, combined with good live music. Still doubting? Don’t.
Are you looking for a place to start the night? “Brettos”, Athens’ oldest distillery, can be found right on the lively Plaka square. This bar oozes both charm and elegance. As you enter, you will find yourself spellbound by the kaleidoscope colours of the bottles. And mind you, this bar dates back to 1909! Here they create custom liquors, so the best advice is to let yourself be advised. Here is a tip: the banana liquor is irresistible. The wine selection is also really good, to be enjoyed without stress, as you try some local Greek wines together with some cheese and olives. The bar is quite small although there’s tables outside, making it a great place to people browse. They have a large selection of brandy, both to enjoy here, as well as to take back home with you as a gift. It is open all day, although, if you are going at night, better not leave it until the last moment.
