This is a beach far away from the swell and the crowd. The Gulpiyuri beach, located in the Llanes council, is embedded within the mountain and presents a beautiful hiding place away from civilization. This official natural monument with its crystal sand is the perfect place to disappear for a day, or perhaps two. Submerge yourself in the crystalline, refreshing water and ascend back into the pure air, letting the sun dry your skin. Keep in mind though, you can only reach this paradise by crossing the San Antolín beach. Also, close to this mini oasis you will find the spectacular natural geysers, Bufones de Arenillas, which are sure to leave you in awe.
Here in Puerto de Vega maritime lovers will find their personal paradise. This old little fishing village represents the essence of the flavour of the sea. Tradition and local colour is abundant across its little streets, filled with typical fisherman houses. The village, located on the western coast, is full of historic signs and memories. Delight yourself as you try the fresh seafood in one of its taverns, or join in on one of their “sardinadas”, local fiesta where sardines are grilled and served fresh off the grill. Stroll down the strip where one can enjoy the display of today’s fresh catch from the Cantabrian as well as buy what one would like to enjoy for supper. Climb up to the viewpoint Mirador de la Riva, discover the old medieval plaza, the historic mansions, and explore the wharf, if possible with a camera at hand. This is the true life of the sea on display.
Art, culture, education and technology are all joined in this fascinating center of creation and experimentation. ‘LABoral centre of art and industrial creation’ opened its doors in 2007 and has continued to offer a program of exhibitions, festivals, lectures, performances, markets, workshops and concerts. Created to be a meeting point for the arts tying deep ties with technology and education, this is the only place in Spain fully dedicated to “cultural technology”. Hosted in a modern building in Gijón in which you will find yourself as if in a laboratory, which is not surprising since the LABoral is a unique seat of investigation and foremost, artistic experimentation. Check out their programming and dive into culture in a completely unique way.
